How to Bring Hydrangeas Back to Life

How to Bring Hydrangeas Back to Life

Hydrangeas are by far one of my favorite flowers — especially at the start of spring and throughout the summer months! I love how they instantly brighten up a room. They also add nice texture and visual interest to a space. Plus, they’re great for bringing as a hostess gift!

However, after a few days, these beautiful blooms often start to droop. It’s disappointing when you buy fresh flowers and they don’t stay fresh for more than 72 hours. Through some research and trial and error, I found out how to bring hydrangeas back to life. The best part? It totally works!

How to Revive Hydrangeas

  1. The second you start to see the flowers wilt, boil some water on the stove.
  2. Dump the old water from the vase that the hydrangeas were in, wash the vase, and refill with fresh water.
  3. Once the water boils, pour the water into a Pyrex bowl.
  4. Cut the stems of the hydrangeas about an inch up the stem.
  5. Stick them into the hot water for at least 1 minute.
  6. Stick them back into the vase and in about an hour, your hydrangeas will look as good as new!

Before & After

Here are photos of the before and after! You can see that the flowers on the left side are wilted and droopy, but the next day they look back to life. This trick can make such a big difference and is totally worth trying!

Important note: If your hydrangeas are too far past the beginning wilt stage, this trick may not work, so be sure to keep your eyes on the flowers daily. I have been able to keep some of my hydrangeas alive for almost 3 weeks! Let me know if this trick works for you!
