It’s been on my bucket list for years to go to Safari West, a safari adventure land right in the middle of wine country (and less than 30 minutes from my house!).
When Mark and I finally got the chance to visit this beautiful spot, I was more excited than I’ve been in a long time. And while we wanted to bring Austin on this amazing adventure, we had to leave him with family because Safari guests must be over age 4.
Upon arrival you literally feel like you have been transported out of Sonoma County and into the deep bush of Africa. Safari West is situated on a whopping 400 acres and houses over 90 species of animals! There are wild animals roaming on acres and acres of beautiful, lush land. Your cell phones do not work, there are no TVs, there is no heat in the bathroom, and it is nothing short of amazing. It forces you to truly enjoy where you are and appreciate the beauty around you (plus, the tents were pretty chic in my opinion!). However, I do suggest bringing some playing cards, some snacks, and a bottle of wine for those moments of downtime. We enjoyed all these little amenities that we brought from home on our balcony that overlooked the most beautiful lake!
As far as food, we were absolutely in love with the delicious meals we enjoyed at Safari West. I highly recommend making reservations if they aren’t included in your room rates, because many locals stop by just to enjoy dinner (which we will definitely be doing in the near future).
While the accommodations were great, our absolute favorite part of the trip was the safari! We booked a private tour, which I highly recommend. Safari West also does public tours, but Mark and I enjoyed having a tour guide to ourselves – it made the experience extra-special in my opinion. Our tour guide, Jessica, taught us fun facts about animals, the environment, and more, and pointed out zebras, rhinos, and other wildlife along the way. Every minute of our three-hour tour was amazing, and I would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of heading to Safari West. We learned so many new things.
I really can’t say enough amazing things about this place. It’s easy to get to, fun, and an outside-the-box way to adventure, making it perfect for families, couples, and friends. We will definitely be back to Safari West, – next time with Austin in tow!
