There are lots of small spaces within a home that can be easily neglected when it comes to decor and organization. One spot that’s treated this way more often than not? The laundry room.

I know that most of us don’t exactly enjoy spending time washing and folding clothes, but the reality is that this household chore takes up quite a bit of time — so might as well make the environment you’re working in nice, right?

Whether you have a small area to tackle this pesky to-do or you’re lucky enough to have a pretty and dedicated space, I’m sharing some of my best laundry room organization ideas in this post. I’m also sharing a variety of useful and cute finds that will help you streamline the process and make the most of this household must.

Think of these tips as a way to bring a little joy to those mundane, everyday tasks…

Laundry Room Organization Tips

I would venture to guess that the average laundry room is a place where clothes pile up, stained towels get thrown, and a random assortment of “junk” inevitably ends up. As a busy mom, I know just how quickly things can get out of whack (aka highly unorganized.) However, because your laundry room is a space where things go to get clean, the space you do that in should also be tidy.

Completing this tedious (and let’s be honest, unfulfilling) chore in a welcoming and relaxing space will make the process a little more enjoyable. Before we get into some items that will help achieve your laundry room organization goals, I wanted to share some quick tips to keep in mind during the process of overhauling your space….

  • Maximize your wall space.

Regardless of the room size you have to work with, one sure fire way to maximize your space is by utilizing the area on your walls. Consider hanging floating shelves or displaying a tall cabinet to create more storage options. Tall storage pieces are also great for housing cleaning tools like brooms, mops, and vacuums.

  • Utilize a lazy susan.

If wall space is already tight, score some more room for your wash day essentials by placing a lazy susan on top of your washer or dryer. These organizers can house items like detergent, wool dryer balls, stain remover, etc. This is a simple and low-cost way to keep things tidy and ready for use.

  • Empty laundry products into labeled storage containers.

Speaking of keeping things tidy, I know I’m not the only one who loathes the sight of traditional packaging. A bright red detergent bottle set on the counter? No thank you. Transferring your soap and other laundry day must-haves into glass storage containers can create a more polished look. Again, while this tip is easy to nail, it offers a large improvement from the bright colored plastic your products come in.

  • Choose aesthetic laundry baskets.

Long gone are the days of pop-up hampers and plastic laundry bins. Now, there are tons of woven, metal, canvas, and neutral colored laundry baskets that not only work well in every style of home, but that actually add a pretty and cozy touch to a space — no eyesores needed.

  • Use hooks and racks to store your cleaning gadgets.

If you don’t want to invest in closed storage, like cabinets or furniture, another option is to use racks and hooks for keeping your cleaning gadgets organized. These tools are ideal for ironing boards, brooms, etc.

  • Store all of your laundry day products in your laundry room.

You would think this goes without saying, but keeping your laundry products in one specific place will help streamline your wash day. For example, rather than stashing your stain remover in a hallway cabinet or under your kitchen sink, keep it right where it will be used.
