Having an organized and clean house is a must in my mind, but it doesn’t stop at the pantry. Since I love to cook and spend a lot of time in my kitchen, it’s important to me that my pantry stays just as tidy as the rest of the house.
We do have an abnormally large pantry (which is truly a game changer if you like to entertain!) but all of the ideas I’m sharing below are just as useful if you’re working with a small space.
Pantries can pose specific challenges that make them hard to keep organized, with mismatched boxes and items that frequently come and go. However, I have learned that having the proper tools and systems in place can really level up the overall look and feel of your pantry space.
Here, I’m sharing all of my best tips and tricks on how to organize a pantry, including some fun decor ideas if you have more room to work with!
How to Organize a Pantry
Pantry Organization Tips
Before we get into some items that will help achieve your organization goals, I wanted to share some quick tips to keep in mind during the process of overhauling your pantry…
- Remove packaging and cardboard.
This is a no-brainer when organizing your pantry. Glass or plastic containers will not only help your pantry look clean and organized—it will actually help keep items fresh. Containers come in a variety of sizes so you can unpack everything from pasta, cereal, chips, and cookies. You can even add a clear label for more cohesive look.
- Maximize vertical space.
If you move forward with the containers above, they likely are stackable which is great to maximize vertical space. Plus, an added benefit of using clear canisters is that you can see exactly what you have at a glance. You’ll know if you’re running low on your favorite cereal without having to even open the box.
- Use counter friendly containers and bins.
If you don’t have room to hide everything inside your pantry, you can still keep your kitchen tidy by utilizing countertop or island storage. This specifically rings true when it comes to fresh pastries or fruit—both offer the perfect opportunity to use a simple glass display that is both practical and pretty. You can also put pasta, baking supplies, or coffee in dainty little canisters.
- Use natural and neutral colors to complement your kitchen.
A lot of the items I reach for in my home are made with neutral materials. I’ve found that regardless of your interior style, these pieces offer a timeless feel that will age well over the years. Glass and plastic containers are two solid options, but I also love incorporating wood materials as well. Wooden boxes and cutting boards are great for both decor and practical use.
Pantry Organization Items
1. Clear Containers and Displays
This is the first step to achieving the organized pantry of your dreams. Say goodbye to colorful cardboard boxes, logos, and brand names and hello to a sleek and cohesive look. You can use stackable plastic containers for everyday items, like cereal or oats. In addition to that, you can get some more decorative glass bowls and storage containers for fresh muffins or cookies that are displayed on your counter.

2. Displays With Wooden Accents
Wooden accents can offer a warm and inviting feel to your kitchen and pantry. Since I usually go for clear or all-white finishes, bringing in a new and natural material is an easy way to create a diverse space. From subtle wooden lids to recipe boxes and lazy Susans (ideal for setting spices!), these pieces will help enhance your pantry while blending seamlessly with other picks.

3. Stoneware Items
Stoneware is a tried-and-true staple in all kitchen areas, and adding a handful of these cuties to your pantry shelves will make a subtle statement. Consider stacking a few mugs or plates on top of each other for a clean and cohesive look. I have found that keeping my back stock/overflow of server ware and dinnerware in the pantry makes for a more easy-to-sort through kitchen. If you have the room for storage, I’d highly suggest organizing your pantry with some of these “extras.” You can also use the space to house sugar, coffee beans, or other pantry items.

4. Metal and Wire Baskets
Wire baskets are a practical (and durable) storage solution for any room in your house, but there’s something about them that makes them particularly fitting for a pantry. The wire material is visually appealing and matches the minimalist design that I personally love. It’s also a way to bring in some fun texture.
Use these little bins to stash snacks for your kids (set them low on your pantry shelves so they’re easy to grab!) or choose to house boxed or canned goods inside of them. Either way, a row of these baskets will look chic while remaining useful.
p.s. I’m including the copper drying rack (pictured below) because it’s too cute to pass up! If you have a sink in your pantry, this would look adorable set next to it.

5. Pantry Decor Items
Even the most simple pantries and kitchen spaces should incorporate some less expected decor elements. Like I’ve said before, I live by the “less is more” motto, meaning you can decorate your kitchen with small items you already have around the house—like frames and art prints. Lean either against your countertops or shelves, or hang them along the wall inside your pantry.
Another idea is to use cookbooks as decor in your kitchen—I’ve linked some of my favorites below!
Also, aside from traditional decor, you can use countertop appliances as a focal point in your pantry or kitchen. For example, we set up an entire coffee station around our espresso maker to serve as a practical and pretty spot in our pantry.
