I know just how tempting it can be to reach for the same comfy pair of sandals (I’m looking at you, Birkenstocks) or your go-to sneakers on a daily basis. However, in an effort to switch things up, I’ve been looking for some outfit inspo that highlights different (yet trendy) pieces. One recurrent theme I’ve come across? Loafers.
While loafers might not be my top shoe choice, I do think they offer a fun alternative to sneakers and flats. Plus, there’s something about them that feels particularly fitting for the fall season. You can pair loafers with so many different outfits, whether you’re a jeans and white tee gal or you prefer skirts and shorts.
If you’re still stumped on how to style loafers, you’re in the right place! I’m sharing some cute ideas I came across in my research below. All of these outfit ideas would work for a variety of seasons and occasions — and they each feature pieces that you could easily mix and match with other outfits.
How to Style Loafers
Loafers with a Dress
One thing I appreciate about loafers is that they can be dressed up or down — and who doesn’t love a versatile piece?! Given that I’m more of a high heel girl, I wouldn’t have necessarily thought of wearing loafers on a date night. However, I think the combo of these dark brown shoes with a mini denim dress is so adorable. Accessorize with a fun handbag or gold jewelry to play things up a bit!
Loafers with White Jeans
There’s no denying that metallic shoes were majorly on trend last fall, and it’s safe to assume they’ll be back in full swing once again. If you’re tempted to test out the look but you’re afraid it will be a bit *much* then this outfit will offer you a happy medium. The key is to stick with neutrals in the rest of your look, like white jeans and a beige top. You can always add a pop of color through your accessories (try a fun purse or dangly earrings!)
Loafers with a Button Down Shirt
Aside from loafers, a button down shirt is about as classic as you can get. They’re easy to create an outfit with because they go with pretty much everything. Step outside the box and opt for a striped or patterned button down rather than a plain white option. Pair the top with some denim shorts (or jeans) for a cool and effortless everyday look. I’d reach for this outfit on busy mom days (when I still want to feel put together!)
Loafers with a Skirt
If you’re looking for an outfit that will take you from a warmer season to a cooler one, this is a good option. Start with a mini skirt (a denim skirt would also be cute!) and add a button up vest or tank on top. You could throw on a layer, like a knit cardigan or denim jacket, if you need some extra warmth. I feel like this would be the ideal look for those in between temperatures!
Loafers with Straight Leg Jeans
If the idea of styling loafers is intimidating to you, this is a fool-proof “starter” look. I’d say it’s safe to assume that you already have a pair of straight leg jeans in your closet, which happen to pair perfectly with loafers. Keep things simple and streamlined by wearing a polo or t-shirt on top, then incorporate some sunglasses, a tote bag, and some earrings as the finishing touches.
