While Sonoma County is more so known for its picturesque vineyards and award-winning wines, the food scene here is equally deserving of attention. If you’re visiting Sonoma for the wine tasting, you’re also going to need some delicious restaurants—which is exactly why I’ve created this list of the best restaurants in Sonoma County. We frequent these places often, so maybe I’ll even run into some of you “Whiskies” while you’re out and about!
From charming little bistros to upscale eateries, Sonoma County offers a diverse array of dining options to suit every palate and occasion. Whether you’re planning a romantic date night or a fun-filled family outing, you’ll be sure to find something to meet your needs and satisfy your cravings.
These picks range from casual breakfast spots that I grew up going to (that’s how you know it’s good) to more innovative dining experiences. Regardless of where you choose to go, any spot in this guide will certainly leave you wanting more!
Best Restaurants in Sonoma County
Jackson’s Bar and Oven
Jackson’s Bar and Oven blends comfort food with a sophisticated and seasonal twist. This favorite of mine offers a such a great dining experience and is suitable for the whole family. With a thoughtful touch, they provide complimentary kids’ snack plates (a brilliant idea for ensuring your little ones are catered to). When perusing the menu, don’t miss out on the spring pea salad if it’s available—it’s a definite highlight. And while you’re at it, be sure to indulge in their renowned truffle pizza (my fave!)
Stark Restaurants
You absolutely cannot go wrong with any of the spots that are part of the Stark Restaurant family. With eight distinctive locations scattered throughout Sonoma County, each one promises a delicious and unique culinary experience.
Among my personal favorites are Bird and the Bottle, where the cocktails are beyond amazing, and trust me when I say this: do not miss the cheese curds. Monti’s is also a must-visit, especially for their lamb burger and Monti Cristo sandwich—a true delight. Stark’s boasts an excellent happy hour that’s not to be missed and is one of the best date night spots in Sonoma.
If you’re in Healdsburg, Willi’s Seafood and Wine Bar offers delectable tuna tartare and french fries, while oyster lovers will rejoice. Willi’s Wine Bar in Santa Rosa is laid-back yet still impresses with an incredible endive salad and irresistible potstickers, though truly, every dish is exceptional.
For a fantastic brunch in Sonoma county, head to Grossman’s, where their Jewish deli-inspired menu features mouthwatering items like the classic Reuben sandwich, alongside convenient grab-and-go options for your day out wine tasting in Sonoma.
The Matheson
Indulge in the elevated atmosphere at The Matheson, where you’ll discover a menu that is inspired by the seasons. Treat yourself to my personal favorite here, an espresso martini—trust me, you’ll thank me later. This restaurant definitely leans toward the higher end price wise, but it’s perfect for enjoying drinks and appetizers or for marking a special occasion.
Another highlight is their impressive wine wall, a special feature that offers an enticing selection of 88 wines on tap. This caters to those with an adventurous palate as well as those with specific preferences looking for a satisfying glass (or even just a half glass).
Hank’s Creekside
Hank’s Creekside holds a special place in my heart as my top pick for breakfast in Santa Rosa. I’ve been going since I was a child and its charm and delicious offerings never fail to kick your day off on the right foot (especially if that day includes wine tasting.)
Indulge in the classics, like the California eggs benedict with a crispy bacon addition, or savor the comfort of their chicken fried steak. And don’t overlook their huevos rancheros, which is certainly a fan favorite. For those with a sweet tooth, the banana buttermilk pancakes are another must-try.
Osake Sushi
Osake is a cherished gem that has some of the best sushi in Sonoma and is known for its innovative blend of California-inspired Asian cuisine. I recommend starting your meal off with the shrimp cocktail as your appetizer. Among our other favorites is the Marilyn Monroe roll, a unique creation that never fails to impress. From meticulously crafted sashimi and nigiri to bento boxes and specialties grilled over a wood fire, each dish will leave you wanting more.
Sea Thai Bistro
Nestled in Montgomery Village in Santa Rosa is Sea Thai Bistro, a true gem where the food hits the spot every time. Among my favorites is their irresistible peanut noodle dish, boasting a perfect balance of savory and nutty flavors. Another top pick of mine is the refreshing cucumber cashew salad—but truly, every dish on their menu is incredible so you really can’t go wrong.
Ausiello’s Homeslice
Ausiello’s Homeslice is a beloved neighborhood joint that is absolutely perfect for families. This casual yet inviting spot is ideal for laid-back gatherings and memorable meals. Indulge in their mouthwatering pizzas and juicy burgers on a summer weekend—there’s nothing better!
The cherry on top (pun intended) is that your little ones will be over the moon when they see the ultimate dessert experience with their make-your-own sundae bar.
Risibisi
Situated in Petaluma, Risibisi offers a modern yet authentic Italian dining experience that is truly unparalleled. Indulge in their extensive wine list, which has hundreds of imported Italian wines alongside selections from Sonoma and Napa Valley. Every option on the list has been expertly chosen to enhance your dining experience.
Their full bar also boasts signature cocktails that are crafted with care, as well as an impressive array of high-end tequilas and whiskeys to elevate your evening. Pro tip: Be sure to try the Tagliatelle al Maiale, it’s so delicious!
Ramen Gaijin
Located in Sebastopol, Ramen Gaijin is a haven for ramen enthusiasts seeking authentic flavors and local ingredients. They are known for crafting their noodles in-house and using seasonal produce sourced from local farmers and ranchers (which I absolutely love about this place).
Complementing their noodle offerings, Ramen Gaijin presents an evolving selection of robata-yaki and small plate izakaya dishes. Pair your meal with their thoughtfully curated craft cocktails, diverse beer options, and a selection of wine and sake.
