I’ll be the first to admit that clogs coming back into style wasn’t on my bingo card. However, when styled right, I do think they make for a really cute shoe choice — hear me out. They’re comfortable, easy to slip on, and they’re perfect for transitional seasons (particularly the fall and spring.) Plus, while they have a more casual feel, you can dress them up with other pieces and accessories.
I’ve talked about my love for Birkenstock sandals many times before and I’m now equally as into the clog trend. I know they have quite a different look than typical shoes, but I wanted to round up exactly how to style clogs in an elevated and feminine way. You can really have fun with them and mix and match them with several different closet staples, whether you’re going for a laid-back look or something to wear out and about.
To keep things simple, I’m sharing a handful of clog outfit ideas that feature the same pair of shoes: The taupe Birkenstock Boston Clogs. In my opinion, this exact pair is by far my favorite for a supportive fit and classic look (they’re the OG clog.) If you’d prefer a pair that’s on the more budget-friendly side, these Amazon dupes have glowing reviews and this Target find is also eerily similar!
How to Style Clogs
Clogs, Straight Leg Jeans, and a Sweater
You know those crazy busy mornings when you’re scrambling to get out the door? I know, I know — if you’re a mom then you understand this on a deep level. This outfit combo is the perfect thing to reach for in those moments. It’s simple and easy to recreate with pieces you likely already have in your closet.
Start with your favorite pair of straight leg jeans, add a collared sweater (an oversized knit would also look adorable), and finish things off with some clogs. Don’t forget that incorporating accessories, like a cute handbag (this one is under $30) and earrings, can really go a long way.
Clogs, a Long Sleeve Top, and a Vest
I mentioned above that clogs are a fool-proof shoe choice when dressing for transitional weather. Another good option for those seasons? Wearing lots of layers. If you’re dealing with temperatures that are cooler in the mornings yet warm in the afternoons, stay comfortable with this cute look.
A white tee is an obvious wardrobe must-have and it also happens to make for a great base when styled with black jeans (these have such a unique hem!) Throw on a vest to add a practical and preppy touch, then slip into your clogs as the last step.
Clogs, a Cable Knit Sweater, Shorts, and Socks
Not in the mood to wear pants? Switch things up by styling clogs with denim shorts, which are an ideal piece to reach for as the seasons change. Keep cozy up top with a cable knit sweater and then add some crew socks for a girly (and warm!) touch. I’ve been loving the ruffled sock look lately and think they make such a fun complement to the more casual feel that clogs provide.
Clogs, a Cardigan and Jeans
There are few pieces of clothing I love more than a cozy cardigan. I look forward to pulling all of mine out when the weather cools off each year, and this one is currently on my shopping list. Similarly to clogs, they can be mixed and matched with just about anything and will still result in a put-together look.
For a tried-and-true outfit that’s good for fall, winter, and spring, style your go-to cardigan with a pair of jeans, a white t-shirt, and Birkenstock clogs. I’d add some gold accessories, like these chunky earrings, and a suede tote bag for a well-rounded outfit.
