I don’t know about you but there are few things I love more than a perfectly made cheeseburger. While this is a year-round favorite in our house, it’s definitely on higher rotation during the summer months—and I’m so glad that season is finally here!
If you’re craving a good burger or you’re looking for a quick and tasty meal to make while hosting, I swear this will be your new, go-to homemade smash burger recipe. The best part is that you can make these on your stovetop, and they don’t take long to put together.
Oh, and I must tell you that the most important part (and the best flavor) comes from the toasted brioche buns and the secret burger sauce, which I share the recipe for below. Just add your favorite toppings and serve with a cold drink and some chips!
Homemade Smash Burger
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef (I use Stemple Creek Ranch organic grass fed, grass finished beef)
- 1 tablespoon mustard
- 2 tablespoons onion powder
- Salt and pepper
- Sliced American cheese
- Brioche buns: trust me, the bun makes or breaks the burger, it has to be soft AF. Toast them using butter and a skillet.
Topping Ingredients
- Sliced white onions (grilled or raw)
- Sliced tomatoes
- Pickles
- Iceberg lettuce
Instructions
- Mix the ground beef with all the ingredients in a large bowl. Then take a small, meatball size of meat and roll it into a ball (it will look like less meat than you think—remember these are thin smash burgers). Then place the ball of meat between 2 pieces of parchment paper and use the bottom of a coffee mug to press the meat into very thin patties.
- Next, heat up a cast iron pan, add some butter to the pan, and put a few patties into the pan. Flip once brown and then add the cheese. These cook quickly, so be sure you have all the toppings prepped, your buns toasted, and the secret sauce (recipe below!) made before you cook the patties.
- Remove the patties and make up your burgers the way you like!
